TE Connectivity (TE), a world leader in connectivity, today announced that its 25-Gigabit (25G) active optics featuring Coolbit optical engines have received an R&D 100 Award. Sponsored by R&D Magazine, the R&D 100 awards honor outstanding projects and developments from global research and development teams. Since 1959, R&D Magazine has served research scientists, engineers and technical staff members at government, academic and industrial laboratories around the world.
TE’s line of 25G active optic interconnects with Coolbit optical engines offers up to 400 Gbps per port with extremely low power consumption. With QSFP28 modules performing at less than 1.5 Watts per transceiver, this new line of 25G active optics can help communication systems achieve up to 60 percent more power savings than similar existing solutions.
“Coolbit optical engines are a breakthrough in power consumption and thermal performance in data center interconnects,” said Phil Gilchrist, vice president and CTO, TE Data and Devices. “TE is addressing the trends of an always-on, data-driven world by engineering products that deliver next-generation performance, reliability and energy efficiency. We are proud that our 25G active optic interconnects and Coolbit optical engines have been recognized with a 2015 R&D 100 Award.”
This is the second award for TE’s 25G active optic interconnects and Coolbit optical engines this year. The products were also honored with an EE Times and EDN 2015 UBM Canon ACE (Annual Creativity in Electronics) award in July.
