II-VI Introduces Optical Time Domain Reflectometry Solutions for Embedded Network Monitoring

II-VI Incorporated, a leading provider of solutions for next generation optical networks, today announced the introduction of its unique suite of Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) solutions for embedded network monitoring applications.

As networks evolve towards greater agility with increased data rates, dynamic re-configurability and centralized control planes using Software Defined Networking (SDN), carriers are demanding increased monitoring of the optical physical layer in real time to support these new capabilities. Leading carriers deploying next generation networks now require systems with embedded OTDR functionality. The II-VI OTDR+ platform, powered by patent-pending technologies and associated algorithms, achieves wide dynamic range and high spatial resolution using very low optical power, making it ideal for embedded applications.

"Our OTDR+ platform is specially designed for embedded applications. It achieves instrumentation-level performance in a compact form factor for both central office and field monitoring at a price point that will drive widespread adoption," said Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi, Vice President for Product Marketing and Strategy, Optical Communications Group. "As the current market leader in embedded optical channel monitors, we are once again driving fundamental changes in embedded network monitoring with the OTDR+ platform."

Products from the OTDR+ platform are currently being sampled by tier 1 optical networking equipment manufacturers. Reliability qualification is being completed based on Telcordia standards and the product will be generally available in the last calendar quarter of 2015.
