WiTCOM Installs ADVA FSP 3000 with ROADM Technology Throughout the Hessen Region of Germany

ADVA Optical Networking announced today that WiTCOM has deployed the ADVA FSP 3000 with reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexer (ROADM) technology throughout the Hessen region of Germany.

The German telecommunications carrier is utilizing ADVA Optical Networking's ROADM capabilities to transform its previously fixed network into a flexible and dynamic infrastructure. WiTCOM supplies residential and enterprise customers in the greater Frankfurt area with secure data center interconnect and telecommunication services. It selected the ADVA FSP 3000 for its ability to radically enhance the performance, flexibility and scalability of its metro network. The new system ensures WiTCOM can rapidly respond to the growing demands of customers by provisioning new services and bandwidth at the touch of a button. The network was designed and tested with ADVA Optical Networking's long-term partner, dacoso, specialists in connectivity solutions and data center services.

"We need a network that can grow at the same pace as our clients' demands," said Rainer Naaß, manager, IT-Business and Planning, WiTCOM. "Enterprises are calling for faster access to mission-critical data and residential customers want more bandwidth than ever before. ADVA Optical Networking shares our ambition to satisfy every customer's needs. Their ROADM technology provides us with a dynamic infrastructure that can rapidly adapt to changes. It empowers us to fulfil our mission today and plan for future growth. With the ADVA FSP 3000, we're able to move away from a rigid and costly infrastructure. We've tackled bottlenecks and minimized the need for truck rolls. With our new ROADM solution, our network can instantly respond to meet requirements. We can manage connections remotely and provide bandwidth where and when our customers demand it."

WiTCOM operates a 500km network with eight nodes connected in a ring architecture. The newly installed ROADM system transforms the network into a meshed ring topology. Links between all sites can be configured instantly through adding and dropping wavelengths on multiple fibers. What's more, the modular design of the ADVA FSP 3000 creates the flexible foundation that WiTCOM needs. To ensure the solution worked perfectly from the start, the equipment was first tested in dacoso's laboratories in Langen, Germany. Operators were also trained in how to utilize the embedded multi-layer GMPLS Control Plane, RAYcontrol(TM). The combination of ADVA Optical Networking's hardware and software results in true network automation, dynamic routing and self-learning. It dramatically simplifies operations, drives energy efficiency throughout the network and provides an abundance of new revenue opportunities.

"WiTCOM is a company that continually strives to give their customers every advantage," commented Josef Sissmeier, sales director, Central Europe, ADVA Optical Networking. "Right now, delivering optimum service means harnessing the power of ROADMs. We're proud to put WiTCOM in full control of their network infrastructure. This empowers them to deliver increasingly innovative services, to address every customer's needs and develop more business opportunities. WiTCOM is a great example of how regional carriers can leverage the performance, flexibility and simplicity of our FSP 3000. We're very excited to be contributing to their success in maximizing their network's efficiency and potential. We've provided them with the tools and the technology. Now they're ready to take the next step in their journey. They can look to the future, a future where agile, intelligent and responsive data transport is available for more and more users."

"Together with ADVA Optical Networking, we've safeguarded the future connectivity of WiTCOM's customers," said Martin Stengel, CTO, dacoso. "Building on what was already a successful three-way partnership, we were able to remove the rigid nature of WiTCOM's network and supply them with a versatile, efficient and scalable solution. We're always eager to join forces with ADVA Optical Networking. And this relationship is set to go further as WiTCOM plan to enhance their network with ADVA Optical Networking's ConnectGuardTM encryption solution."
