Anyone attending the Calgary Stampede knows it’s an experience they will never forget. The 10-day event billed as The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth draws 1.2 million visitors and features one of the world’s largest rodeos, a parade attended by approximately 350,000 people, a midway, live music, agriculture competitions, chuckwagon racing and First Nations exhibitions.
This year, the Calgary Stampede will feature something totally new — two NanoLumens NanoSlim 6MM 16 X 9 HD LED display platforms, assuring that the arena crowds in the Agrium Western Center on Stampede Park won’t miss a single moment of the show. The portable NanoSlim displays will be moved to various locations within the venue, depending on the type of event taking place. Suspended from a beam above the ground, the NanoSlim will portray live video, graphics and programmed information in bright, easily visible images. These same screens will be used throughout the rest of the year, supporting conventions, expos and other events that make the Calgary Stampede one of the busiest event venues in Canada.
“Because the Calgary Stampede has very specific needs, we completed a lot of research for our new LED displays,” explains Mark Muench (RTPM), events services manager for the Calgary Stampede.“I saw that NanoLumens displays are in many similar venues such as Cleveland’s International Exposition Center. Weight was a crucial consideration for us, because the displays will be hung in multiple locations in the venue. The NanoLumens solutions are less than 500 pounds per rigging point, which is the lightest weight of any display available. This makes the screens easy to hang and to move, offering excellent brightness and they are extremely cost effective. This made NanoLumens the natural choice. ”
While the Calgary Stampede is two months away, the two new NanoLumens displays are already getting a workout at convention and expo events taking place at Stampede Park. The screens have been in use for only a couple months but they’ve drawn compliments from event attendees for their brightness, vividness and visibility. “They were used for the recent Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo and we had a chance to compare the NanoLumens LED displays to a projector and screen also used for that event. There was no comparison,” says Muench.
