Fiber Mountain, Inc., the Glass Core Company and provider of transformative software defined networking (SDN) solutions for enterprise and hyperscale data centers, today announced its AP-4240 Optical Path Exchange (OPX).
The AP-4240 is a software defined active optical cross-connect that can provide any port to any port connectivity for point-to-point and point-to-multipoint applications in a slim form factor. The device provides cross connect of 160 ports x 160 ports (320 fibers) in a 1 rack unit space and is scalable to over 1000 ports.
OPX is an integral part of Fiber Mountain’s Glass Core architecture and enables creation of Programmable Light Paths (PLP) directly connecting ports in the data center network. A network of AP-4240 devices can be controlled from Fiber Mountain’s Alpine Orchestration System (AOS).

Raza. “When used in conjunction with our Alpine Orchestration System, the Optical Path Exchange can help data centers scale with ease, while significantly reducing power consumption, space and cooling needs.”
Equipped with high density fiber optic interfaces, the AP-4240 has on-board optics, which reduces the complexity and cost of installing external pluggable transceivers. The device features Connectivity Virtualization which is the ability to change fiber connections in data centers dynamically via software, without having to send human hands into the data center to disconnect and connect cables; this is to data center connections what moving virtual machines is to servers. Moves, adds and changes are automated and software controlled.
The product is available for use in the Fiber Mountain Glass Core, or can be purchased for use with any 3rd party SDN controller for a variety of applications.
Fiber Mountain will be demonstrating the Glass Core and OPX in booth #2067 at Interop Las Vegas from April 28th through April 30th, 2015.
