Korean Memory Supplier Places Order for ESI IR Laser Systems

Electro Scientific Industries, Inc., a leading provider of world-class photonic and laser systems for micro-engineering applications, today announced that a major Korean memory supplier has placed a follow-on, multiple system order for ESI Model 9850 infrared (IR) laser link-processing systems. The 9850 is the world’s first dual-beam IR laser system. The 9850 IR systems, which will be used primarily for the production of leading-edge NAND flash products, are expected to ship to the customer’s production facility in the current fiscal quarter.

The Model 9850's innovative architecture utilizes two beams from a single laser to enable potential throughput improvements of up to 90 percent compared to conventional laser repair systems. This approach—the industry's first parallel-processing capability—improves cost of ownership by providing more productivity with no increase in maintenance or floor space requirements.

“This follow-on multi-system order further confirms the ability of our dual-beam technology to deliver unsurpassed productivity to our customers,” noted ESI director of semiconductor link processing, Martin Igarashi. “Due to the existing 9850 tools’ success in providing great cost of ownership benefits, our customer will use these systems for the production of its advanced memory devices. ESI’s on-going development of fine link pitch solutions continues to enable our global customer base to develop their product roadmaps for advanced NAND and DRAM devices.”
