AAC Technologies and Pelican Imaging announced today that AAC Technologies is the chosen lens supplier for Pelican's latest array camera module. The array camera, manufactured by Jabil, Inc., is slated for inclusion in an upcoming reference design that allows very accurate near-field and far-field depth acquisition.
Pelican's unique, flexible array camera solution provides depth when used as a standalone camera, or when used as a sensor in conjunction with a traditional camera.
AAC Technologies, one of the world's leading micro-component solutions providers, uses advanced wafer-level optics to produce lenses for mobile handset manufacturers. The new array camera lenses are already in production. AAC Technologies's highly efficient automatic production line enables cost-effective manufacturing with maximum precision.
Jack Duan, COO at AAC Technologies, noted, "We foresee strong demand for high-quality array lenses in the next wave of mobile devices. AAC Technologies is quite pleased to be partnering with Pelican Imaging on their latest array camera module as this offers AAC a great opportunity to be at the forefront of innovation in mobile imaging."
"AAC Technologies is an outstanding partner for us," said Pelican Imaging CEO and President Chris Pickett. "Their expertise in lens production and unique all-glass wafer-based lens technology allows us to deliver high-quality, cost-effective array camera solutions to Pelican's customers worldwide."
Pelican Imaging's advances in computational imaging have enabled a high-resolution light field camera in a very thin mobile form factor. The Pelican array camera captures images and video in native 3D, delivering users with the ability to perform 3D scanning, and also to easily apply photo edits such as refocus, multiple focus, distance measurement, and background subtraction/replacement. At under 4mm thick, the Pelican camera is ideally suited for mobile applications, as well as other growing markets including automotive, machine vision, defense, aerospace, security, healthcare, gaming, and retail.
