A Dawsonville, GA man who was left paralyzed from an auto accident 13 years ago is now living without his glasses thanks to Dr. George O. Waring, M.D., a surgeon at InView, a leading laser surgery center in Atlanta, GA. InView is one of several vision correction surgery centers nationally that participate in the Focus on Independence Program that donates LASIK surgery to quadriplegic patients participating in the program. The surgery took place on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the InView Offices located in Atlanta.
Scott Lowe, 29 years old, was referred to the Atlanta LASIK center through the Focus on Independence website. He completed his pre-LASIK consultation and found that he was a perfect candidate for laser surgery. Following his surgery, less than two weeks later, he was able to see without his glasses for the first time since 3rd grade. “This surgery is going to change my life for the better and it will make me much more independent. I'm pumped!” exclaimed Scott when asked about preparing for his surgery. Scott is one of 4 patients that InView has helped through the program, to date.
“These patients have a terrible time dealing with contact lenses and glasses. A simple inconvenience for most of us, having to worry about adjusting and re-adjusting glasses can become quite a cumbersome task for patients such as Scott Lowe,” said Board Certified Ophthalmologist and Refractive Surgeon Dr. George O. Waring who performed the life changing procedure for Scott.
Dr. Waring has been involved in the Focus On Independence Program for 3 years and is the only surgeon in the metro Atlanta area to participate in the program. He believes this program allows Americans living with disabilities the opportunity to participate and enjoy life to the fullest.
