Energy Focus Seeks U.S. and International Patents for Advanced Tubular LED Lamp Product

Energy Focus, Inc., a leader in LED lighting technologies, announced today it has filed both U.S. and international patent applications for an advanced tubular LED lamp product, commercial Intellitube™, to be launched in the first quarter of 2015.

Energy Focus Inc.'s patent pending technology will provide both direct fit and direct wire functions for the retrofit of existing linear fluorescent fixtures. The direct fit function will allow commercial Intellitube to operate with existing fixture ballasts, while the direct wire function will allow Intellitube to operate without a ballast when wired directly to the electrical supply line. Therefore, customers would not need to replace the ballast when it fails, but could simply remove the existing ballast and wire Intellitube to the supply line.

The proprietary, patent-pending circuitry of Intellitube will provide intrinsic safety to the operator as shock hazards from casual contact common to standard re-lamping have been removed. Additionally, the patent-pending technology will allow light output of Intellitube to remain constant when switching from direct fit to direct wire, ensuring the light quality will not change when the ballast fails and is eventually removed.

Energy Focus was the first to develop the dual function technology used in its military Intellitube lamp. By the end of first half of 2015, the company expects military Intellitube will have been deployed in over 10% of the U.S. Navy Fleet.
