GigOptix Announces Sample Availability of GX62474 Linear Quad-Channel Mach-Zehnder Modulator Driver

GigOptix, Inc., a leading supplier of advanced high speed semiconductor components for use in long-haul, metro, Cloud connectivity, data centers, consumer electronics links and interactive applications, through optical and wireless communications networks, today announced sample availability of its newest GX62474 linear quad-channel Mach-Zehnder Modulator (MZM) driver for low-power 100 Gbps DP-QPSK coherent long-haul transmitter applications.

The Company expects its GX62474 will begin to ship in full volume production in the third quarter of fiscal 2014.

The release of GX62474, low-power consumption linear driver in a small surface mount technology (SMT) package, by GigOptix further strengthens the company’s telecom driver market leadership position. The surface-mount package is optimized for minimum crosstalk and maximum isolation between each of the four channels. The GX62474 is designed to integrate seamlessly into customer modules by providing internal RF input and output DC blocking capacitors. RF supply chokes are provided with the GX62474 small form factor SMT package for best performance and a high level of integration to minimize the overall cost. Channel performance optimization has been enabled via independent gain and peak detector controls. Each of 4x32Gbps broadband amplifiers is capable of driving up to 6Vpp of linear output voltage which is suitable for multilevel modulation applications.

“The GigOptix GX62474 quad 32Gbps linear driver has demonstrated excellent performance with power dissipation lower than 2.0W per channel at 5Vpp linear output in a small form factor SMT package. The GX62474 was designed for very low total harmonic distortion, large dynamic range, and very low group delay variation to address linear coherent long-haul telecom systems. The GX62474 also has a 27GHz typical 3dB bandwidth, very small data skew between channels, and small gain response variation across power supply and temperature,” said Mr. Marco Cipriani, Sr. Director of Engineering at GigOptix, Inc. “GigOptix continues to innovate and lead the market with our leading low-power long-haul telecommunications products. The GX62474 is an outstanding modulator driver which enables multi-level modulation applications required in today’s market and has been sampled already by number of our existing and new telecom key customers.” GX62474 will ship in full production starting in Q3 this year.
