Conterra to Deploy All Fiber Optical Network for West Contra Costa Unified School District

Conterra Broadband Services has entered into a multi-year agreement with the West Contra Costa School District to deploy an all fiber optical network to support the data, video and voice requirements of the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) based in Richmond, California.

Consisting of sixty-two educational and support facilities, WCCUSD covers the cities of El Centro, San Pablo, Pinole, Hercules and the unincorporated areas of Bayfield-Motalvin Manor, East Richmond Heights, El Sobrante, Kensington, North Richmond, and Tara Hills. The district serves approximately 32,200 students.

When completed, the fiber optical network will provide 10 gigabit symmetrical connectivity to each WCCUSD location and is scalable to 100 gigabits per location with no supplementary construction. Conterra monitors, manages and supports its networks on a 24x7x365 basis and guarantees network performance and reliability.

According to Mary Phillips the WCCUSD Chief Technology Officer, "With our accelerated video program applications including our cloud-based environment to support our one-to-one tablet initiative and other emerging technologies, a fast, secure and reliable wide area network is essential for our curriculum." Ms. Phillips added, "Conterra Broadband will provide us with a robust ring topology WAN that will deliver dedicated 10 Gbps to every WCCUSD location. In our current cloud-based environment this is essential for student learning."

Conterra's EVP Van Snowdon cited, "We continue to offer school districts aggressive network solutions to support the limitless surge of bandwidth and reliability requirements in the education sector."

The network is set for completion in Summer 2015.
