Applied Micro Circuits Corporation, also known as AppliedMicro, today announced it has now shipped four million 10G Optical Transport Network (OTN) ports to system providers, underscoring the Company's leadership in this market. AppliedMicro achieved this milestone less than 36 months after shipping one million ports in 2011 and less than 18 months after shipping two million ports in 2012.
"Our leadership in the converged data center and service provider OTN market is further validated with four million OTN ports shipped," said Francesco Caggioni, Senior Director of Marketing & Technology, AppliedMicro. "The proliferation of connected devices continues to drive the need for increased network bandwidth and flexible LAN/WAN/OTN ports."
"Demand for OTN transport and switching equipment continues to grow. Service providers are using the advent of coherent 100G technology to upgrade their infrastructure to economically and flexibly meet bandwidth demands," said Andrew Schmitt, principal analyst, Optical at Infonetics Research. "We forecast OTN equipment to top $13 billion in revenue by 2017 and AppliedMicro is a leading supplier of silicon components that feed the growing OTN market." Infonetics reported the OTN transport and switching equipment market grew 8 percent in 2012 (the most recent year figures are available), to $7.3 billion.
AppliedMicro will showcase its OTN technology and its newest 240G LAN/WAN/OTN device with a live demonstration in its booth No. 3071 at OFC 2014, taking place at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from March 11-13. To schedule a viewing, please contact Tian Liew ([email protected]).
