Intel Embeds SoftKinetic DepthSense 525 3D Camera Module in Portable AIO Reference Design

SoftKinetic®, the world’s leading provider of 3D imaging and gesture recognition solutions, today announced that Intel® has embedded the SoftKinetic DepthSense® 525 3D camera module into its new Intel Portable All-In-One (AIO) reference design. Intel demonstrated this cutting edge reference design AIO at the Intel Developer Forum, September 10-12, 2013 in San Francisco.

The embedded DS525 3D camera module features SoftKinetic’s patented Time of Flight (ToF) depth sensor that allows data recognition from as close as 15cm, at up to 60 frames-per-second (fps). The DS525 delivers fast, low latency data transfer to provide the highest quality user experience with virtually no lag.

“Intel’s Portable All-In-One reference design with our embedded DS525 module provides a highly sophisticated interface, capable of recognizing the most natural and intuitive user movement,” said Michel Tombroff, CEO of SoftKinetic. “We are incredibly excited to partner with Intel to showcase our combined capabilities.”

Intel also licenses iisu®, SoftKinetic’s industry-leading middleware for gesture tracking, as part of the Intel Perceptual Computing Software Development Kit (SDK). The SoftKinetic hardware and software combination allows Intel to provide new user experiences for its various platforms.

“We have been thrilled with our relationship with SoftKinetic and the flexibility of their technology,” said Anil Nanduri, Director, Solutions & Products - Perceptual Computing Group at Intel. “The flexibility and robust capabilities of SoftKinetic Time-Of-Flight 3D technology have allowed us to integrate it quickly and seamlessly with our portable AIO reference design, and we are excited to bring this level of 3D gesture recognition experiences.”
