Mindspeed Launches Integrated Laser Driver with Dual-Closed Loop EyeMinder Technology for Optical Transceivers

Mindspeed Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, today announced the latest addition to its laser driver solutions for SFP transceivers targeting enterprise, telecom and wireless networks.

The highly integrated solution features a low power laser driver integrated with a limiting amplifier, a real-time performance monitoring controller and on-chip erasable memory, supporting data rates to 3.1Gbps in a small 4x4mm package.

"In addition to the integrated EEPROM, the M02077 laser driver also incorporates our proprietary dual-closed-loop EyeMinder™ technology that delivers real-time monitoring and compensation for laser aging and temperature effects, making it the ideal choice for new SFP module designs," said Angus Lai, product marketing director of high-performance analog (HPA) at Mindspeed Technologies.

"We are very pleased to design in Mindspeed®'s M02077 in several of our optical transceivers for 1Gbps to 3Gbps applications," said Zhilong Ye, operations vice president of HG-Genuine. "With its rich feature set and superior performance, the M02077 will enable us to meet our customer's requirements and win new designs."

Mindspeed will be highlighting its M02077 family at the 15th Annual China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE), September 4-7, 2013, in Hall 1, Booth#1A76 at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center in Shenzhen, China. The company will also be showcasing its latest generation companion high sensitivity 1Gbps to 3Gbps transimpedance amplifiers (TIA), along with other members of its family of physical media dependent (PMD) solutions for 1Gbps to 100Gbps applications.

Technical Features

Mindspeed®'s M02077 features a programmable laser driver integrated with a limiting amplifier. It also includes on-chip electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) for storing calibration constants and performance settings, which can support more than one million write cycles. In addition to operating without external control, the devices can also be controlled with an external microcontroller.

The M02077 supports 3.1Gbps data rates for both transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) operations with isolated power pins and independent shutdown. The laser driver offers the low power industry proven dual-closed-loop EyeMinder technology. Its limiting amplifier can support better than 6mV input sensitivity at 3.1Gbps with selectable gain and bandwidth settings.

Availability

The M02077 is available now and is production qualified.
