Xeleum Lighting today announced the introduction of its new Athena Series Stairwell LED Light Fixture. Specifically designed for use in stairwells that may be unoccupied for long periods of time, it automatically provides 100% light levels only when the space is occupied and dims to a power saving level of approximately 20% when the space is unoccupied.
The combined use of occupancy sensors and LED lighting makes possible dramatic reductions in energy consumption, with savings of up to 85% over conventional stairwell fixtures that do not employ these two features.
Mehrdad Ghalebi, President of Xeleum stated that “among the unique features of this product is the emergency battery back-up system which is built directly into the fixture. Developing this fixture from the ground up allowed us to fully integrate the electronics with the lighting and battery systems, thereby achieving far superior overall performance at a cost significantly less than approaches based upon simply combining existing components.
Additional features include vandal-resistant construction and electroluminescent tape recharge capability. Installation is simplified because the fixture is self-contained, without the need for external sensors. Available in two foot and four foot lengths, the use of LEDs ensure many years of maintenance-free operation without ever having to change a bulb.
The Athena Series Stairwell LED Light Fixture is UL 924 rated, NFPA compliant, FCC certified and in conformance with DOE rulings pertaining to ASHRAE 90.1-2010, Section 9.4.16(g). Input power is 30 watts in full-on mode and 6 watts in dimmed mode.
Steve Fields, CEO of Elite Offices in Coconut Creek, Florida stated, “Because so much energy is wasted on lighting stairwells during the long periods when they are not being used, I expect this new stairwell fixture from Xeleum will quickly find wide acceptance. We especially like the inexpensive battery back-up feature and the fact that installation is simplified because the occupancy sensors are built directly into the fixture.” He added, “We already have Xeleum LED troffers installed in our facility and, with this new stairwell fixture, we are looking forward to even greater savings in both energy usage and bulb replacement costs.”
