Applied Micro Circuits Corporation, also known as AppliedMicro, a global leader in computing and connectivity solutions for next-generation cloud infrastructure and data centers, today announced that it has been honored by telecommunications equipment leader ZTE with its 2012 Supplier of the Year Award.
The award recognized AppliedMicro as the best overall supplier in the category of optical transport network (OTN) and high-performance PHY solutions. The combination of innovative products, superior performance, and excellent technical and logistics support all represented important criteria in selecting the winning supplier.
The award underscores the R&D investment by AppliedMicro in its 10 Gbps, 40Gbps, and 100 Gbps technologies, which help to power ZTE optical transport products. In particular, AppliedMicro chips are used in multiple metro and long-haul line cards used in various ZTE products, including the ZXONE 8000 series. One of the key technology items that enables APM to achieve 100Gbps performance levels before others is its advanced mixed-signal development technology and team. First to have 28Gbps per channel in CMOS at telecom spec levels well over a year ago, AppliedMicro is now shipping at 32Gbps rates enabling robust 100Gbps solutions.
"Our in-depth collaboration with AppliedMicro across many advanced projects has enhanced our complete product portfolio," said Zeng Zhaoxiang, vice president of ZTE. "With the complexity levels faced by today's systems designer to deliver complete features along with demanding performance, power and form factor goals, new approaches are needed to stay competitive. The AppliedMicro advanced analog capability, coupled with its deep OTN systems knowledge, provides ZTE a powerful set of effective building blocks, and we look forward to close and continued cooperation."
AppliedMicro is one of the early pioneers of OTN and has shipped more than 2 million OTN ports to date, more than any other supplier. Also supplying a telecom-grade family of high-performance PHY chips, the company addresses the most challenging problems faced by today's line card designer. Coupled with advanced software, the job of designing with AppliedMicro can be completed in a smooth and efficient manner.
"We are honored to accept this generous award from one of the world's leading telecom and wireless equipment makers," said George Jones, vice president of connectivity solutions at AppliedMicro. "The deployment of these new technologies will drive much-needed expansion of high-bandwidth throughput. This recognition by ZTE of our team's hard work fuels us to drive continuous improvement in contributing to the increasing success of ZTE."
