China Star Optoelectronics Technology's 8.5G LCD Panel Line Achieves Full Production Capacity

China Star Optoelectronics Technology Co Ltd., a business union of TCL Corporation -- a world leader in consumer electronics industry, announced that its 8.5G LCD panel production line has reached full capacity three months ahead of the original schedule.

The 8.5G LCD Panel Project of CSOT Reaches Full Capacity Earlier than Scheduled with 108,000 Sheets per Month

The 8.5G LCD panel production line is now able to produce 108,000 sheets per month, with a product yield of 95%. This achievement not only marks the total success of China Star Optoelectronics Technology's 8.5G LCD panel project but also sets a new milestone for China's LCD panel industry.

The success of China Star Optoelectronics Technology is a realization of TCL's strategic goal to completely build its entire LCD display industry chain. Reaching full capacity is also a demonstration of Shenzhen's production speed and quality to the world. The Celebration Ceremony is held today in Shenzhen with the attendance of the government officials including, Yang Xueshan, vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Wang Rong, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Shenzhen Municipal Committee, Xu Shaohua, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Executive Vice Governor, Liu Zhigeng, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Xu Qin, Mayor of Shenzhen, Qi Chengyuan, Director of the High-Tech Industry Department of the National Development and Reform Commission, Ding Wenwu, Director of Department of Electronic and IT Products, Ministry of Information Industry.

Wang Yang, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, Secretary of CPC Guangdong Committee, sent a congratulatory message to highly praise the achievements of China Star Optoelectronics Technology. As he has pointed out, the 8.5G LCD panel production line's full capacity proved CSOT's demonstrating role in the industrial upgrading and transforming of Guangdong Province. He hopes the company to make greater contribution in future by sticking to the independent innovation and enhancing the core competitiveness, productivity and influence.

Li Dongsheng, Chairman of TCL Corporation, said, "China Star Optoelectronics Technology is a very important pillar for TCL Corporation. With its independent innovation and continuous investment on research & development, China Star Optoelectronics Technology has made great progress during the past 27 months. The operation and yield rates have also increased steadily since the project's mass production last October." He also believes that China Star Optoelectronics Technology's 8.5G LCD panel project will promote closer upstream-downstream cooperation in the LCD-panel industry chain, accelerate the building of the modern industrial system, as well as increase the global competitiveness of China Star Optoelectronics Technology.

Since the launch of the LCD Panel Industry Development Plan (2010-2012), China Star Optoelectronics Technology's 8.5G LCD panel production line has been the first High-Generation TFT-LCD Panel Project in China, which was built completely on its own through independent innovation. On November 16, 2009, China Star Optoelectronics Technology was officially signed and jointly launched by TCL Corporation and Century Science & Technology Investment. The construction of the structural roof-sealing and its main factories was completed ahead of schedule on December 28, 2010. The first-phase production of the 8.5G LCD panel was put into operation on August 8, 2011, filling the gap for high-generation LCD panels in Southern China. In October 2011, China Star Optoelectronics Technology realized its mass production, with comprehensive yield reaching as high as 82.73% in January this year.

According to Chen Liyi, the Acting CEO of China Star Optoelectronics Technology, during the past 13 months since CSOT went into operation, the self-innovating HVA technology was applied. With its fast response, high contrast ratio and high transmittance advantages, the products were achieved in an industry-leading position. On March 9, 2012, China Star Optoelectronics Technology successfully launched the world's largest 110-inch 4X full high definition (HD) 3D liquid crystal display (LCD) screen "China Star," once again proving TCL's capability in research and independent innovation. This revolutionary technology has enabled China to become the third country to have successfully developed high-end display technology, behind Japan and South Korea.

In August 2012, China Star Optoelectronics Technology announced a sales volume of 1.23 million units for its panels and modules, setting a record of ten months -- the shortest time taken to produce millions of sheets in the panel industry.

China Star Optoelectronics Technology is set to become the leader of China's panel industry, driving the whole domestic panel industry to break through international bottlenecks. It is now the leading 8.5G LCD panel production line in China that has the largest productivity for 32-inch LCD panels along the Straits. This effectively changed the status of China's long-term dependence on importing large LCD TV panels, as well as enhanced local enterprises status within the global flat-panel industry. From a global perspective, the production of LCD panels is now focused in China. Industry analysts have also noted that "with the full capacity of the 8.5G production line, costs can be reduced to enable China's panel industry to win over more global market share from Japanese, Korean and Taiwanese counterparts."
