CVIN Selects LightRiver Technologies for California’s Central Valley Fiber-Optic Network Infrastructure Project

LightRiver Technologies, Inc., a leader in the deployment of fully-integrated, multi-technology communications networks, today announced that it has been chosen to work with CVIN, LLC dba Vast Networks (CVNGBIP.org) Next-Generation Packet Optical Infrastructure using Multiprotocol Label Switching –Transport Profile (MPLS-TP) carried over 100G capable Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) technology backbone.

This Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) based network is partially funded by the federal government’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) stimulus program.

Vast Networks, together with its public sector partner CENIC (The Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California), is implementing a project designed to improve the availability of broadband infrastructure for 18 counties within the California Central Valley area. The robust network infrastructure will dramatically change the ways citizens in these 18 counties learn, work and live together. The funding of the application will also, in the short term, create jobs associated with network deployment and contribute to economic growth in the longer term.

This project involves building, operating and maintaining a fiber-optic network infrastructure that traverses 1,750 miles of California’s Central Valley and connects 19 county offices of education, 14 community colleges, 3 California State University campuses, 20 county/main libraries and seven public safety sites. In addition, Vast Networks will also utilize the new infrastructure to directly offer commercial broadband telecommunications services to businesses within 1,973 communities and numerous government agencies in the 18 county central valley region of California. In addition, Vast Networks offers wholesales services, dark fiber, and residential wireless services.

“CVIN chose LightRiver for this project because of their deep experience in deploying critical communications infrastructure and success with many similar networks,” said Mike Stewart, Director of Marketing, Vast networks. “Based on their technical response and the due diligence that Vast Networks conducted, we are confident that LightRiver is the right choice for the CVNGBIP and its customers.”

“We are proud to work with CVIN to light the broadband telecommunications back-bone serving California’s Central Valley educational infrastructure empowering the next generation of on-line learning,” said Glenn Johansen, CEO, LightRiver.
