Synopsys, a global provider of electronic design automation technology, has released its latest version of RSoft Optical Communication Design Suite with OptSim version 5.3 and ModeSYS multimode companion tool.
The OptSim ver 5.3 features an expanded model library that helps accelerate design and development of advanced optical communication systems. It includes models for simulating coherent multi-level polarization-multiplexed modulation and coherent polarization-multiplexed binary phase-shift keying formats. These features will aid in development of single-carrier 100G Ethernet and other such advanced applications. The software helps in development of high-speed long-haul transmission systems with high inter-symbolic interference and other enhanced orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing models.
The new OptSim has added Y-fed balanced-bridge dual-arm Mach-Zehnder modulator model, clipping in the electrical domain model, phenomenological model and electrical filter synthesis to its model library. These aspects will help in analyzing systems such as photonic integrated circuits, optical transport networks and ultra-long-reach metro networks.
An enhanced and updated multimode fiber model that helps speed-up the evaluation of optical signal propagation through more rapid calculation of mode-coupling equations is part of the ModeSYS.
The OptSim includes advanced new application examples that can help improve the efficiency of experienced users and also speed up the training time required for new users. The examples include microwave photonics, parametric fiber amplifiers, multimode systems and polarization-multiplexed modulation formats. Phase-sensitive fiber parametric amplifiers, in-band crosstalk in partial DPSK systems, dual carrier PM-QPSK modulation, 25-Gbps directly modulated VCSEL-based multimode links and PM-QPSK modulation using an external local oscillator are part of the application examples.
