Acuity Brands, a global provider of energy-saving lighting solutions for outdoor and indoor applications, has announced that Medical Mutual of Ohio has installed its Acuity Relight kits in its corporate headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio.
Medical Mutual of Ohio had undertaken an extensive lighting renovation project at the historic 381,000 sq. ft. Rose Building. The project is expected to help the company reduce its lighting energy consumption from 1.9 million kWh to around 906,000 million kWh, annually. This translates into more than 50% in savings.
Acuity Brands’ Lithonia Lighting volumetric Relight kits were used for retrofitting the deep-cell parabolic luminaires that were located in the interior of the building. The kits measure 2' x 4' and they feature RT8R recessed lighting components that demonstrate energy efficiency. These components were installed into existing fixtures easily as they did not involve any breaking of the ceiling plane. Eco Engineering, a provider of lighting services and upgrades that are energy-efficient, had selected Lithonia Lighting volumetric Relight kits for the extensive lighting renovation project. It used 2,600 volumetric Relight kits for the project.
The Relight kits generate less heat and this will reduce the load on air conditioning, which will translate to savings in energy usage. The total energy usage by the building is expected to decrease to around 1.2 million kWh from 2.5 million kWh, annually, which is over 50%.
The Relight kits eliminate the cave or checker-board effect that is created by lensed and parabolic troffer systems. They are a cost-effective solution which can be installed with minimal work disruption.
