Researchers at Fraunhofer, Erlangen have developed a miniature intelligent camera that can handle professional TV and film productions. It is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions such as cold, and resist dust, sand and other particles. It measures 2x2x8 cm and can be fixed on to helmets.

The INCA intelligent camera delivers images in HD broadcasting quality and has a host of sensors that provide information on air pressure, temperature, acceleration and the GPS position.
Sportspersons and athletes undergo many phases of emotion when taking part in competitions. The person’s pulse, how a person feels and the emotion of the sportsperson can be observed through the miniature camera. The camera can be connected via WLAN or Bluetooth to external systems such as face recognition software, chest harness for tracking the heart rate, voice detection and object recognition systems.
The innovative INCA intelligent camera can be used for event broadcasts, adventures, animal movies, expeditions, nature shows and other such activities. The camera functions on the Android operating system. An app controls the camera, which allows it to be adapted to the required function. The camera system has the ability to compress HD videos in real time, correct objective errors and also execute complex algorithms.
The camera features an Open Multimedia Applications Platform processor that enables the huge range of functionality to be contained within the small space. Additional function blocks have been integrated that enable the system to record and process HD video images in real time.
The smart camera is to be demonstrated at the IBC 2012 trade show in Amsterdam.
