The U.S. Energy Information Administration report for 2012 pegs the electrical energy consumption of the U.S. government at 192.2 trillion BTUs.
The federal government has pledged to take initiatives to reduce its energy consumption by 28% within the year 2020. City municipalities have also expressed their intentions in this regard by allocating grants for energy efficient upgrades. The fastest means of energy efficient upgrade is the replacement of inefficient and outdated T12 fluorescent lighting systems with energy-efficient T5 lighting systems. Lighting retrofits serve the dual purpose of aesthetics and energy efficiency. In spite of the cost factor and inconvenience caused by reconstruction, lighting retrofits are the most recommended solutions owing to the federal and state grants as well as rebates offered by electrical utilities for energy efficient fixtures.
In compliance with the U.S Department of Energy mandate to phase out T12 lamp production by July 14, 2012, the State of Florida provided the City of Callaway with a grant for energy efficient upgrade in the city’s multiple buildings. A major portion of the upgrade involves the replacement of T12 and T8 lighting fixtures with T5 fixtures. The exercise was facilitated by LUXADD’s T5 Retrofit kit.
The City of Callaway’s Interim Manager and Public Works Director, Bobby Baker recommends LUXADD’s lighting retrofit kit as it has enabled cost effective implementation of the energy upgrade. Most importantly, the city has achieved an instantaneous saving in energy consumption by 65% through the deployment of LUXADD’s fluorescent lighting.
