NXP Semiconductors N.V. has created the SSL21101, a new type of GreenChip LED driver ICs with Smart Digital Control (SDC) technology. NXP’s SSL21101 is currently being showcased at Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (Hall 13.2, Booth B43).
The SDC is equipped within a compact analog design to enhance the precise performance of the SSL21101 with reduced materials cost, thereby providing practical solutions for high-performance, non-dimmable LED applications up to 15 W. The single-stage SSL21101solution will enable LED devices in buck-boost or flyback configurations to achieve up to 90% efficiency with very accurate output current control.
The NXP’s Vice President and General Manager, power and lighting solutions business line, Stephane Curral stated that introduction of the SDC with optimized algorithms will boost LED lighting concepts with more possibilities, lower costs and better performance.
The SDC has two modes, the high power factor mode with more than 0.95 PF rating and less than 20% total harmonic distortion, and the low ripple mode with less than 1% LED current ripple enabling compact designs and the use of small-sized electrolytic capacitors. The SSL21101 is installed with a high-voltage power switch and a circuit for immediate start-up from rectified mains voltage. A comprehensive set of protections is also provided.
Other features in SSL21101:
- Integrated 700 V MOSFET
- More than 3% current accuracy
- NTC input pin is installed to limit the maximum LED temperature
- SO14 package
- Primary side sensing without the need for optocoupler
- Internal protections comprise internal over-temperature protection, LED short protection, undervoltage lockout protection, LED open protection, and short-winding protection
