Over the past years, leaders in the optics and photonics industry, including IPG Photonics, General Electric, Coherent and Edmund Optics have won the award. JenLab, nanoplus, WITec and other similar university spin-offs have also won the awards.

The awards honor different categories, including detectors, sensing, imaging and cameras; industrial lasers; life sciences and biophotonics; scientific lasers; defense and security; green photonics and sustainable energy; information and communication; optics and optical components; test, measurement, metrology; and other light sources.

Innovators may provide their entries till 14 September for the Prism Awards program. Experts in the corresponding categories will judge the entries. In November, the competition finalists will be announced and the winners will be awarded in February 2013 at the SPIE Photonics West exhibition in San Francisco.

The President of PD-LD, Uri Abrams stated that winning the award has given an additional level of endorsement to their product and has also increased their market visibility.

Optotune’s Sales Manager, Joerg Wertli commented that the award is a major milestone for the young technology company on the market.
