Cortina Releases New Family of PON Products

Cortina Systems recently introduced a new line of PON products that can achieve expedite adoption in the rapidly developing worldwide PON markets.

The new family includes CS8160 10G EPON ONU for MDU deployments, CS8124 Quad 10G EPON OLT with integrated advance traffic management, and CS8232 Dual Mode EPON/GPON ONU with home gateway capabilities. These components target the rapid growing segments of the PON spectrum.

Cortina CS8124 Quad 10G EPON OLT is the first high density 10G EPON OLT driving leading innovation in the market for economic line card designs. CS8124 innovation combines four ports of SerDes, 10G EPON MACs, and IEEE P1904.1 SIEPON-compliant power conserving engine into cost- and power-efficiency device. The CS8124 consists of an advanced traffic management core that uses field-verified Cortina CS8022 1G EPON OLT, through which access to backplane can be achieved. The CS8124 Quad 10G EPON OLT features integrated traffic management with full L2 switch and VLAN processing without using expensive, high-power consuming external switch or network processor. It supports IEEE802.1AS, IEEE1588v2, and 1PPS+ToD timing synchronization and allows wireless mobile backhaul in 4G LTE networks. With 2048 LLIDs per PON port, it fulfills DPoE specifications.

In combination with the CS8124, the Cortina CS8160 10G EPON ONU ensures a complete end-to-end 10G EPON solution. Its superior architecture includes XAUI and four SGMII ports for versatile and affordable MDU configurations. It has an integrated traffic management engine that can support up to 256 subscribers for traffic control. The CS8160 equipped with the CS8124, enables the SIEPON-compliant sleep modes that leads to minimal power load on the network. It meets DPoE specifications with multiple LLIDs. It allows wireless mobile backhaul in 4G LTE networks and supports IEEE1588v2, IEEE802.1AS and 1PPS+ToD timing synchronization.

The Cortina CS8232 Dual Mode EPON/GPON ONU single chip flexible architecture, when designed as an affordable bridging ONU enabling system or full feature home gateway ONU, provides single solution for the entire market. The Cortina CS8232 Dual Mode EPON/GPON ONU can be standardized for operating cost and power conserving as well as OAM (operation, administration, and maintenance) features. Cortina Packet Express Architecture (embedded high performance CPU, proprietary DMA with prioritized channel access and packet buffer management) enables pipelined packet processing. Advanced OAM support includes IEEE802.1ag and Y.1731 CFM support. G.supp45, IEEE802.3az EEE, and IEEE1904.1 SIEPON are the integrated power saving modes.
