Goodrich has secured a contract from Lufthansa to retrofit LED runway turnoff lights on Lufthansa’s fleet of A319/A320/A321 aircraft.
The aircraft’s nose landing gear will have the enhanced LED lights in two of its locations, providing better illumination with high consistency, thereby minimizing the airline operating expenditures over existing LED lights. In addition, the plug and play design of the LED lights allows rapid installation in less than 15 minutes. The installation operation will be carried out in Goodrich's Lighting Systems facility located in Lippstadt, Germany.
The VP of Goodrich's Interiors Cabin and Lighting Systems business, Brian Sartain said that the company worked with Lufthansa Technik team to develop LED solution with premium technology that will contribute to maintenance-free and extended lifetime products. Goodrich’s LED runway turnoff lights are electronically and mechanically fully interchangeable with the existing lights. These lights showed promising results during the extensive field trials. Reports from pilots stated that these new lights provided enhanced viewing capabilities and the deployment of exterior lights on board the Airbus A320 Family aircraft will add a safety measure.
Lufthansa Technik AG’s A320 Family aircraft system engineer, Tim Wenger said that they are happy to partner with Goodrich team, which offers a suitable cost-effective lighting solution. The Goodrich lights perform beyond expectations and provide excellent quality and application.
