Power Integrations, manufacturer of durable off-line LED driver ICs, has recently declared the launch of an LED-driver reference design that can replace high-power LED bulb.
Capable of generating equivalent power needed for a 100 W incandescent bulb replacement, this driver is the industry first A19 form factor. DER-322 features a 93% efficient, non-isolated, high-power-factor (PF) LED driver. This high-efficiency driver was designed to power a small LED string having 78 V at 230 mA from an input voltage ranging from 47 Hz – 63 Hz. The operation of the LED driver is based on the low-profile LNK460VG that belongs to Power Integrations’ LinkSwitch-PL family of ICs.
Safely housed within the A19 form factor, the DER-322 complies with EN61000-3-2 C or D and also exceeds THD limits. It has more than 0.95 PF and therefore is ideal for consumer and commercial applications. As this design integrates PFC and CC conversion into a single switching stage, it shows low component count, facilitating reduced cost, miniaturization and high reliability. In addition, it also eliminates temporary electrolytic input bulk capacitors.
According to Power Integrations’ product marketing manager, Andrew Smith, the DER-322, with 8-10% efficiency over older solutions proves to be an excellent option for lighting experts looking out for commercially available A19-sized fixture that can replace a 100 W incandescent bulb. The LinkSwitch-PL family of ICs will also facilitate manufacturing cost-effective replacements for 60 W and 75 W bulbs.
Reconfigurable as a T8 tube replacement driver and ideal for an A19 incandescent bulb replacement-driver, the DER-322 serves high-end LED lighting designers and also cost conscious retailers. The reference design is capable of being customized to support TRIAC dimming.
