Teijin Aramid declared that it has found a novel way to protect Twaron Tape, an optical fiber cable. Nowadays, the role of optical fiber cables is increasing in telecommunications and hence it becomes essential to safeguard their delicate cores from different strains and hazards.
The size of the optical fiber cables is becoming smaller day by day, yet there is lot of difficulty in protecting these fiber cores. The construction of this Twaron Tape is based on an aramid fiber matrix, which enables the manufacture of optical fiber cables with smaller diameter.
These cables offer three to five times of improved crush resistance when compared to other aramid fiber protection that is presently used. Manufacturing thinner cables by means of Twaron Tape provides a number of benefits over existing solutions. For instance, the 1.2 mm optical cables increase the potential of optical distribution frames from 30% to 50%. Additionally, lower cooling power is required for thinner cables, thus reducing emissions and costs at distribution centers.
Twaron Tape D2800, a flexible patented product, helps in increasing the speed of cable production. The flexibility of the Twaron Tape enables faster and easy installation and handling, together with easy connectorization and stripping of optical fiber cables. This tape has a single Twaron yarn, wherein a matrix material is infused and fixed. This results in space savings and allows fiber cables to be quite thin. These optical cables are wrapped evenly around the cable’s core to offer crush resistance, optimal force and complete coverage.
At Wire Düsseldorf 2012, the company's experts will demonstrate the Twaron Tape and discuss how these optical cables can benefit customers.
