LASERLAB-EUROPE, an association of key laser research institutions of Europe are engaged in a new phase of collaboration on 15 March in Bratislava. Guests of this event included representatives of the Slovak Government, the European Commission, and the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
In the early 2009, the International Laser Centre (ILC) or Medzinárodné Laserové Centrum became a member of LASERLAB-EUROPE. It now serves as the host with František Uherek as its Director and Dušan Chorvát as Deputy Director. A coordinator of the training activities conducted at LASERLAB-EUROPE, it also functions as a national contact centre in one of the new Member States of EU.
A major partner of LASERLAB-EUROPE, the European “Extreme Light Infrastructure” ELI, is a powerful scientific laser. Currently, the ELI is expanding its presence in the Czech Republic, Romania and Hungary. HiPER is another major European civilian project, which focuses on the potential to produce energy from fusion. The LASERLAB-EUROPE consortium’s recent development of laser devices and its advancements has achieved a wide range of progress that extends from these two mega-projects to developing innovative table-top devices for life sciences, engineering, science, environmental sciences or medicine.
During the initial period from 2012 – 2015, LASERLAB-EUROPE consists of 28 of the massive European laser infrastructures. Integrated with associate partners and subcontractors, it expands across 19 European countries. Many single principal investigator groups from European universities are provided free and regular access to the consortium’s facilities.
