A Charlotte- based chiropractor of Omni Wellness Center, Dr. Darcey Walraven-Ladner offers low-level laser therapy (LLLT) to patients with chronic neck, back and joint pain, and other related conditions.
In this treatment, the injured tissues are first targeted using a laser with definite wavelength, followed by its penetration through the skin to contact the tissues. Therapeutic laser light drops within a range of specific wavelength, and its pulse can be regulated at various levels with respect to the intensity of injury.
Dr. Walraven-Ladner said that LLLT enables to reduce pain and other impacts caused by a post-injury scar tissue. LLLT is a non-drug based and non-invasive therapy that enables the body to be free from pain by penetrating inside tissues to promote localized healing. It provides an effective pain relief for a number of ailments ranging from carpal tunnel syndrome to fibromyalgia.
Dr. Walraven-Ladner added that the light wavelength of the therapeutic laser needs to be programmed within a specific range to prevent damage to the tissues. The optimal wavelength range is from 660 to 900 nm. At 660 nm, the laser targets deeper tissues; while at 900 nm, the laser ensures deeper penetration up to 4” or 5”. The laser light has photons that stimulate cells to generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP) that can help injured tissues to heal faster. In addition, the laser reduces inflammation and activates circulation. The LLLT activates the production of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, within the injury site. Based on the conditions of each patient, the laser treatment can be altered with spinal adjustments that serve as acupuncture and massage therapy. It can also reduce scars caused by injuries.
