austriamicrosystems launched the new AS3668, a smart LED driver IC that is capable of leveraging up to four LEDs. It produces advanced indicator lighting effects that can be incorporated in USB memory sticks, tablets, 3G and LTE modems, and mobile phones, without involving power-hungry baseband processor.
The 12-bit PWM dimming function of AS3668 provides a uniform illumination. The IC’s integrated audio synchronization mode has an audio content which influences the LED to optimize color and brightness levels. The new driver also functions as a supplementary user interface.
The AS3668’s baseband-independent solution generates light patterns that can be used as indicators in phones and tablets. The LED indicator lights powered by AS3668 utilize very low power than conventional fixtures. The AS3668 is a versatile and powerful charge pump-based programmable LED driver IC. Precision current sources of up to 25mA are provided for each LED, upon integration with an RGB/W cluster of LEDs generate light with a variety of colors.
The device consumes minimal power of 0.2µA in stand-by mode. An automatic start-up pattern serves as an effective indicator. The VBAT monitor that can be programmed assures secure operation in any system environment.
The smart LED driver IC can generate an extended array of light patterns. It also performs pulse-skip, rise and fall timing, pause, audio synchronization and color variations. With the help of a simple programming interface, it can be integrated in a target system for performing multiple operations in addition to optimizing the patterns and colors of light.
The innovative AS3668 smart LED driver is offered in a compact 1.26 x 1.68, 12-pin WL-CSP package.
Along with TAOS, austriamicrosystems has showcased at the Mobile World Congress, from Feb 27 to March 1, 2012 in Barcelona.
