Nordson ASYMTEK, a provider of coating, jetting and dispensing technologies, has won the 2011 Global Technology Award for the fourth time in the LED production equipment category for its Spectrum S-922 LED jetting system for supplying silicone.
The award is given for new inventions in the packaging and printed circuit assembly industries. Nordson ASYMTEK received the award at the Productronica Trade Fair on November 15, 2011 in Munich, Germany.
The company’s jet dispenser facilitates sticky silicon phosphor to be supplied into minute, compressed cavities for side-view LEDs, the supply being crucial for the color quality of the LED. The system employs a jet for non- contact supply, injecting 0.1- 0.2 mm dots through 0.4 mm windows into LED cavities. Contrary to a needle, the jet absorbs less for silicone break-off, injecting several shots with increased speed and throughput. The jet’s minute drops of fluid reach narrow cavities constantly. The process variability for fine LED color quality is minimised using Calibrated Process Jetting Plus (CPJ+).Tolerance is retained throughout the dispensing cycle and active processes, such as fluid viscosity and the modification to dot size or nozzle becomes stable.
Global SMT & Packaging magazine is the sponsor of the 2011 Global Technology Awards, where for the first time the LED production equipment category has been included.
