Online research website Reportlinker has released a report on the global LED market and the LED market in China. For the purpose of the report the entire LED market has been divided into four major regions such as European and American region, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan and Chinese Mainland.
According to the report the total LED market size has increased by 58% from $10 billion in 2010 to $ 15.8 billion. The LED for LCD TV market size has also reached $9 billion from $ 960 million. While the LED backlit LCD TV market reached 26.9% in 2010 and is expected to grow by 55.9% in 2011, the market for LED backlit NB has reached 95% in 2010 from 55% in 2009. The LEC backlit LCD TV market is likely to increase to 40% by the year 2012.
The report also talks about the specialities of each region in the market. Japan provides all the latest technology and is very strong in backlight display and general lighting. South Korea and Taiwan focus more on laptop display backlight, mobile phone backlight and LED TV backlight. While European and American markets concentrate mainly on general lighting and give high importance to reliability and high levels of brightness in their products, Chinese Mainland acts as a production workshop and is responsible for the production of 95% notebook computers, 50% LCD TVs, 80% mobile phones and 95% LCDs all over the world. During the year 2010, China attracted a large amount of investments from major companies amounting to a minimum of RMB10 billion. The report also states that MOCVD machines worldwide are led by companies like VEECO and AIXTRON.
