The City of Stamford has been looking out for lighting solutions that will fit into their shrinking budgets. The LED street lighting solution from GE seemed to be the most suitable solutions that both fits into their budget and also provides energy-efficient lighting.
The financial aid for the installation of the lights was provided by Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant. With the financial aid, Stamford was able to install GE’s Evolve LED Roadway Medium Cobrahead (EMRC) fixtures on all the main corridors.
The energy utility manager for the city explained that by installing the energy efficient lighting solution Stamford was able to cut down on the cost and also illuminate the city with an aesthetic light source. She added that the LED lighting system from GE provided uniform lighting with minimum glare and had a colour temperature of 4300 K. The EMRC system from GE was capable of providing superior uniform, vertical and horizontal lighting and better lighting control. The power consumption per fixture is a mere 95 to 157 W, which is almost half of the consumption of sodium vapour lamps. The effective service life of the lighting fixtures is 10 years, during which minimum maintenance efforts will be needed. By installing the new lighting solution, Stamford will be eligible for a rebate from the Connecticut Light and Power, which they will be using to install more EMRC fixtures in the city.
