Siemens Healthcare has introduced the latest generation of "iScan", its ear impression scanner, at the International Hearing Aid Acoustician Congress 2011 held in Nuremberg.
The scanner enables acousticians to create digitalized three-dimensional impressions of ears and then send them online to manufacturers of hearing aids.
The "iScan" device scans ear impressions to 1/10 mm and then displays a corresponding three-dimensional image. The hearing aid acoustician can then analyze the results and send them to hearing aid manufacturers online. The "iScan" software then automatically verifies the authenticity of the order. This quickens the ordering process and avoids any telephonic clarifications or enquiries. The online ordering process helps save on transportation costs and also avoids deformations that may occur during transit. The "iScan" software also allows the acoustician to electronically track the procurement process – the ordering, as well as the manufacturing and the delivery process and the exact time of delivery of the ordered device.
Siemens had introduced the "iScan" in 2005. The latest generation "iScan" works faster than the previous models. It utilizes an open data format that allows acousticians to transfer the electronic ear scan impressions independent of any manufacturer. The acoustician can also save the data and utilize them for follow-up orders.
Siemens announces availability of the new "iScan" scanner in November 2011.
