Primus Australia, a subsidiary of the Primus Telecommunications Group has announced that it has completed the first phase of the launch of its high-capacity fibre optical transport network (OTN) called the Primus Metro Fibre.
The first phase of this installation was carried out in Melbourne and Sydney with plans of future launches in all the five major cities of the country.
During the first phase, the company has installed the advanced OTN/DWDM network to cater to lower bandwidth and provide optimal fibre utilisation. In the near future, the company plans to optimise the technology further by providing cutting edge products and services and expand its product portfolio for commercial purposes. The Huawei OSN 8800 platform will be used for the new OTN which will help the company in providing low latency and high speed bandwidth on an individual transport platform. After completion, the new OTN will provide additional services such as low latency Ethernet, SDH/SONET, point-to-point intercity service and Ethernet.
Telecom companies in particular will benefit from this enhancement as they are in need of a low latency and high speed bandwidth covering not only the local markets, but also the country as a whole. The services provided by the company will be cost effective to its customers and provide greater efficiency. According to Tom Mazerski, CEO of Primus Australia, the first customers of the company will be online by the current quarter of the year 2011 and this in turn will help Primus Australia to lead the market and launch new light wave based products for government and commercial customers.
