Shipment of Ensphere Dual Transceiver for Light Peak Optical Modules Exceeds 500,000

A Silicon Valley-based manufacturer of communications semiconductor integrated circuits, (ICs), Ensphere Solutions has announced that in 2011, the total shipment of the ESI-XVR10100 devices supplied to its customers has exceeded the 500k mark.

The ESI-XVR10100 is a 10G dual transceiver device designed for use in optical Light Peak modules and in Thunderbolt active optical cables. Light Peak is an I/O technology developed by Intel that connects laptop computers and other portable devices to storage devices or external monitors. The use of ESI-XVR10100 transceiver device in the Light Peak module allows it to support a maximum of two full-duplex independent 10 Gb/s links and its flexible architecture supports power management modes in addition to out-of-band signaling. The transceiver device is best suited for use in Thunderbolt active optical cables since they feature electrical termination on each end and optical fibers are used for internal data transport.

The Chief Executive Officer of Ensphere, Hessam Mohajeri explained that the challenge that Ensphere had to overcome was the integration of two 10G receive and transmit stages on a CMOS die, while meeting the power dissipated targets required by its customers. The Vice President – Marketing of Ensphere, Al Gharakhanian added that the product offering of the company is not just providing cost effective and functional devices but it encompasses much more benfits.
