Diodes Introduces LED Driver for Low Voltage Lighting

Diodes has launched the AL8807 buck LED driver with a frequency of 1MHz. The driver is aimed at applications that require lighting at low voltages.

However, the driver can also achieve higher output by operating at a voltage range of 6 to 30V. It can also accommodate a maximum of eight LEDs that are series connected with a continuous current of 1A. The driver’s rise and fall times can be controlled and it has an accuracy range of ±5%. The driver has an efficiency rate of 96% and its output can be set easily by the use of an external resistor. In systems that involve 3W LED lighting the driver can match the luminance between each lamp more accurately.

The AL8807 can reduce problems arising out of Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) in the lower priced MR16 lamp market. A DC voltage or a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal can be used to control the dimming in the driver. As a result, users can achieve dimness ranging from 16% to 100% from the DC voltage and a dimming ratio of 1000:1 from the PWM signal. This also prevents any over-drive in the LED current. At present the driver is available in the SOT25 package. Additionally the MSOP-8EP package will also be made available. Diodes specializes in the production and supply of rectifiers, diodes, transistors, single gate logic, comparators and amplifiers for the analog, logic, semi conductor and discrete markets.
