An US-based broadband service provider, has announced at the 2011 FTTH Conference and Expo that it has added three more Optical Network Terminals (ONT) to its existing Calix Unified Access Portfolio, which is aimed at small and medium businesses and markets of the mobile backhaul.
The three ONTs namely 741GE, 742GE and 743GE comprise Ethernet operations and administration management (OAM) that help communication companies to provide cost-effective and efficient metro ethernet forum solutions for small and medium businesses and mobile backhaul companies.
Each ONT has the capability to support a symmetrical bandwidth of one gigabit per second. The OAM capabilities of the ONTs allow small and medium businesses to cater to service level agreements and ensure their customer satisfaction. The 740GE series of ONTs adopt the auto-detect technology from Calix, which provides GPON and point to point Gigabit Ethernet. It also helps its customers to achieve increase their operational efficiency and flexibility. The scalability can be attained without the necessity of changing any equipment.
While the 741GE comprises two POTS ports and two GE ports, the 742GE comes with OAM support and small form factor pluggable transceivers (SFP) than can support both copper and fibre interfaces. The 743GE comes with two T1s and E1s, which helps in optimising the ONT for mobile backhaul and government entities along with Ethernet Gigabit.
