Dow Corning, a global silicones and silicon-based technology company, is to showcase its high-performance, innovative silicon-based solutions for LED Lighting at the Strategies in Light Europe exhibition.
LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) offer a more energy efficient and sustainable lighting solution than conventional lamps and lighting solutions. Manufacturers of LEDs have to overcome numerous hurdles to increase the market adoption of LEDs. The most important barrier being the luminous efficiency of LED lights and the initial purchase cost.
Improvements and development of the material used for LEDs will increase the performance of the light and also decrease the cost of ownership of LEDs. Materials that are suitable for LEDs in luminaires and lamps must be able to protect sensitive electronic components. They should be able to endure high operating temperatures and must be thermally stable. The material should be able to survive strong light sources. It should also be optically transparent and white so as to reflect light.
Materials based on silicon provide thermal stability, high purity and adhesion. They are resistant to moisture and retain their optical clarity even at high temperatures.
Dow Corning provides lighting solutions based on silicon-based materials.
The Strategies in Light Europe exhibition is to take place from October 4 to 6, 2011 at the Crowne Plaza Milan Linate, in Milan, Italy. Lighting experts from Dow Corning will be available at Booth No. 325 for media briefings.
