Wavelength Electronics has launched a new precision USB laser diode and temperature control for its laser control system. The new control is a cost-effective package comprising an USBKIT interface board along with the software.
The interface board with USB 2.0 specification has on-board screw terminals that enable easy wiring. It also has the QuickConnect virtual control panel that provides real-time status of the laser system along with the strip chart graphs. A USBKIT can be used to operate a temperature controller and a laser diode driver at the same time, and multiple USBKITs can be used for controlling complex systems by attaching them to a single computer.
The USBKIT’s multifunction I/O card has auxiliary A/Ds as well as D/A for remote type of setpoint control. The QuickConnect software facilitates easy set-up and has on-screen wiring diagrams that allow connection of other Wavelength modules. The kit has built-in functions for conversion of resistance-to-temperature allowing easy calibration of temperature sensors. The required load temperature can be set up as a temperature or as a voltage through the graphic user interface. The temperature limits can be set and the laser diode current can be set to get disabled when the temperature goes beyond the limit.
The software has the ability to control the photodiode current in the constant power mode or the laser drive current in the constant current mode. Photodiode current can be converted to laser output power without difficulty.
Voltages, translated temperature and current values are available from the graph data of the two strip charts. One graph displays controller data of the laser diode, while the other displays temperature controller associated data.
Wavelength Electronics is providing program customization for additional functionalities.
