A provider of network solutions in Internet TV, iDTV and broadband for telecom and cable operators, UTStarcom has been awarded a contract by Ningxia Electric Power Company.
As per the terms of the contract, UTStarcom will provide an ethernet passive optical network) solution to Ningxia Electric to enhance the company’s communications platform and electric distribution system. This will enable Ningxia to deploy the integrated distribution system and the communication platform by 2012 in five cities located in the Ningxia province. Since last year, the construction of the communications platform and electric distribution system by Ningxia Electric has picked up momentum ever since the Chinese governments has extended support and encouragement in the development of localized grid networks within the country
The Chief Executive Officer of UTStarcom, Jack Lu stated that the EPON solution provided by the company integrates a range of functionalities along with enhancing the electric distribution system and the communication platform of Ningxia Electric at a lower cost of entry. Lu also added that the EPON contract will open more opportunities in China since the government is promoting the automation and digitalization of state grid networks.
The EPON solution developed by UTStarcom enables electric companies to build reliable and high-quality communication channels capable of collecting data and providing optical fiber to its end users.
