The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is substituting more than 200 high-pressure ineffective sodium (HPS) roadway fittings close to Detroit Metro Airport as part of a creative lighting program financed by the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth.
MDOT has chosen EverLast induction cobra head roadway fittings from Full Spectrum Solutions, a light manufacturer located at Jackson, Michigan as energy-saving replacements for the obsolete HPS fittings.
The novel induction lamps are installed between the Middle Belt Road and Merriman along I-94, and in both exit ramps.. These kinds of lighting utilise low energy with improved lifetime, providing considerable savings.
Brandon Marken, EverLast’s Director of Commercial Sales states that the induction lights of the company save energy by 50% to 70% and provides a maximum life of 100,000 hours. He states that the fittings need minimal to zero maintenance for more than 10 years, and based on the size of the project, can save thousands of dollars for urban environments in maintenance and functional costs every year.
Along with the financial and environmental advantages offered by the novel fittings, the creative lighting program of MDOT also demonstrates the significance of the role of lamp hours and light quality in improving conveyance security. EverLast induction roadway fittings provide a white light with enhanced driver visibility and improved color on expressways and roads. Longer lamp life ensures low maintenance.
Technical visits of this creative lighting program will be organized during the forthcoming yearly meeting of American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) to be held in October.
