Capella, a provider of wavelength selective switch (WSS) technologies for utilisation in optical cross connects and reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM), has added CR-EX to the CR-X range of WSS products.
The CR-EX is a 1x20 complete wavelength management solution featuring integrated monitoring ability. The CR-EX features increased extinction ratio, minimum cross talk, broad passbands, and insertion loss for all 21 ports. Reliable quality optical performance on all ports provides total ROADM flexibility in architecture while decreasing the amplification costs and increasing the number of cascaded nodes. Utilising the proprietary technology of Capella, the CR-EX complies with CR100 and CR50, and assists either constant power or fixed attenuation mode enabling the DWDM device manufacturer to choose the ideal network regulation solution for their application.
Pat Day, VP, Engineering and Product Development of Capella stated that CR-EX provides improved optical performance, reduced power consumption and a low profile in the industry. He said that the CR-EX features 20x1(add) or 1x20(drop) functionality or integrated add/drop in a single unit and integrated optical channel power monitor is the total WSS product for route and select ROADM framework.
The CR-EX, like the CR100 and CR50 incorporates a non-mandatory integrated optical channel power monitor (OCPM) ruling out the requirement for independent optical monitoring solutions leading to low cost and size within the DWDM framework. The integrated OCPM offers a power monitoring subsystem using the patented wavelength connectivity confirmation of the company.
The CRx range of products has attained the needed quality standards and consistency.
