Finisar has launched upgraded versions of the WaveShaper programmable optical processor.
The WaveShaper 4000S/X and 1000S/X provide an additional wavelength range spanning both the L- and the C-band of the optical communications window in an individual device. The recently launched WaveShaper versions have been designed for laser pulse shaping in medical and metrology applications and for system testing of optical networks. Finisar has also released the WaveManager Application Suite software package version 2.0 that supports new functionalities such as simulation of a comb of laser channels and a precise forecast of filter shape.
The improved frequency range of the WaveShaper 4000S/X and 1000S/X are advantageous to several applications. In metrology, wider bandwidth ultrafast pulses can be controlled precisely, providing several novel applications in the segment of optical atomic clocks. System testing of the novel reconfigurable network structures spanning the additional C+L-band and C-band is enabled in communications.
The novel WaveManager Application Suite 2.0 assists in decreasing system testing cost with its new emulation algorithm for creation of DWDM spectra. Finisar accomplishes this by shaping and slicing the broadband spectrum, and removing banks of modulated laser sources that have been utilised earlier. It is also possible to create independent spectral shapes for the channels as though they were modulated with various data formats.
The WaveShaper classification will be illustrated at the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC) 2011 to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, between 19 September 2011 and 21 September 2011 by Finisar.
