Entropic Communications, a provider of silicon and software solutions focussing on home entertainment and InCoax Networks, a provider of devices for providing broadband access over present in-building coaxial cables, has declared that Finnish operator Blue Lake Communications (BLC) has utilized the Gigabit over Coax Access (GoCA) technology of InCoax.
The solution is aimed at enabling European broadband service providers to provide economical, efficient connectivity to customers spanning future IPTV services and high-speed broadband. The GoCA platform uses Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) solution of Entropic, derived from the widely-utilized Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA) specification.
BLC is a subsidiary of the Finnish Finnet group, comprising of 29 telecom companies located in the city of Savonlinna, providing services to nearly 15,000 subscribers. As an attempt to fulfil the desire of the Finnish government that a minimum of 98% of its population shall have 100Mbps broadband connection by 2015, BLC utilized the GoCA broadband connection platform over present coax networks in buildings and apartment houses, to provide the customers novel premium service solutions such as IP-telephony, IPTV, high speed Internet, and film-on-demand.
The GoCA platform features three products having broadband capabilities of a maximum of 500 Mbps, 250 Mbps or 1000 Mbps benefiting various building sizes, apart from providing 100 Mbps throughput to every subscriber.
