Cambridge Industries Group (CIG), a designer and manufacturer of optical network termination (ONT) units has chosen Lantiq, a supplier of broadband access and home networking technology, to utilize Lantiq’s FALC ON ONT System-on-Chip (SoC) ICs for combining into its advanced customer premise equipment (CPE) has opted for FALC ON chips to create a series of compact ONT units having increased energy savings and efficient optical network.
CIG utilises FALC ON SoC ICs in four single-family unit (SFU) equipments such as data/voice and data-only units. The FALC ON chipset is the only ONT equipment that complies with pre-set standards with completely integrates optical control circuitry that decreases the system elements needed, and enhances consistency and efficiency.
Dr. Gerald G. Wong, Chief Executive Officer of CIG stated that the small and economical designs with strong network efficiency are the primary basis for choosing the core equipments to improve CIG’s product portfolio.
The three equipments in the Lantiq FALC ON series include APD/PIN-receiver-control circuitry and integrated burst mode laser drivers that can be interfaced directly to a BiDi optical sub assembly (BOSA) without utilizing area-consuming and expensive optical transceiver units. The ITU-T G.984 adaptable GPON MAC, optical control circuitry, and an on-chip processor helps in adjusting optical element variations and achieving automatic alignment.
The energy efficiency of Lantiq GPON SoC based ONT device is considerably lesser than the CoC needs for the years 2011 and 2012, and it is considerably lesser than the presently suggested performance needs for the years 2013 and 2014.
