Samsung Launches Wireless Optical Disk Drive and Smart Media Hub

Samsung Electronics has unveiled SE-208BW optical disk drive (ODD), its latest smart media hub. The drive is an external ODD having wireless connectivity.

The SE-208BW has the usual capabilities for CD/DVD playback and writing. Additionally it has an APP that allows users of PCs, tablets and smartphones to stream and play CD/DVDs on their devices wirelessly, enabling them to view video content or listen to music.

The SE-208BW ODD enables backup of data from tablet PCs and smartphones onto CDs and DVDs wirelessly, without having to switch to notebook or desktop computers. The drive can also act as a private server, as it supports Dynamic DNS. It can also become a Cloud Server when an Internet LAN cable and USB memory drive or external hard disk drives is connected to the ODD.

The Samsung ODD has the capability to serve as a repeater for amplifying Wi-Fi signals. It has a wireless repeater functionality and access point (AP) that allows it to be connected to Ethernet LAN cables.

The Samsung drive has Allshare that allows content in the drive to be viewed on TV’s having DLNA compatibility. Multimedia content can also be written onto CDs/DVDs. The drive has a USB power interface and measures 140 mm x 21.5 mm x 200 mm. It supports different types of data media at different speeds such as 5X DVD-RAM, 6X DVD-RW, 6X DVD-R Dual Layer, 6X DVD+R Dual Layer, 8X DVD+RW and 8X DVD±R recording, and 8X DVD, 24X CD-RW and 24X CD-ROM reading. The external drive features buffer under-run technology and allows PC multitasking. The SE-208BW is compatible with Win7, Mac OS and other major operating systems.
