OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Announces 1070 mW Compact Infrared LED

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has introduced a compact infrared LED that provides optical power of over a Watt.

The infrared OSLON of OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is the smallest IR LED in the 1-Watt class. It affords extremely small illumination units for cameras and security systems.

The IR OSLON SFH 4715S device has an OSLON Black Series package. It also features the company’s nanostack chip technology. The 3.75 x 3.75 sq.mm compact size facilitates the usage of the device for CCD and CMOS cameras.

OSRAM’s IR OSLON has an 850 nm wavelength, which facilitates matching of the device to the CCD and CMOS camera sensor sensitivity. At an operating current of 1 A, the device provides optical power of 1070 mW. It has a thermal resistance of 6.5 K/W. It has an integrated lens that has a +-45° emission angle. This lens increases the output power delivery of the device by 15%. The IR-LEDs can be modulated in 10 MHz range to high 5 A operating currents.

OSRAM has combined the OSLON Black Series package with its nanostack chip technology to achieve the high device size to power ratio. When compared to conventional emitters, the stack chips generate double the power. The thermal expansion of the OSLON Black Series package matches the circuit board’s thermal behavior. The IR OSLON has an operating life of around 50,000 hrs and it also complies with the AEC-Q101 automotive standard.

The IR OSLON is especially useful for the security industry. It can be used for number plate recognition, machine vision solutions and as spotlights for CCTV systems and IR cameras.
