City Hall Installs LED Lighting Solutions Complying with Dark-Skies Guidelines

Acuity Brands, supplier of innovative energy-efficient control and lighting systems, has participated recently in a renewal project with the City of Fountain, Colorado making use of its Holophane Utility Full Cutoff LED luminaries.

LED Full Cutoff Utility Series

Holophane Utility Full Cutoff LED luminaries enable manufacturers to produce a retro-appearance designing in-line with regional lighting laws for decreased sky glow. Full cutoff or fully-shielded is a standard that is maintained by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) in order to decrease lighting pollution during the night. The product series includes Utility Postop, Utility Washington Postlite, and lantern-style Utility Arlington luminaries, indicating the wide range of portfolio of zero-uplight post top lighting devices in the market. These lighting luminaries are provided in asymmetric and symmetric distributions with lumen packages ranging from 70 to 105 W.

With respect to the Hall city’s community and historical importance, the prevailing 100 W high-pressure sodium lighting solutions were decided to be retrofitted with energy-efficient lighting systems. The Hall city applied for a corresponding grant offered by the Colorado Governor’s energy office which specified the project to create a positive impact on people’s opinions and implement highly-efficient lighting solutions. The grant highlighted the installation of LED lighting systems with the objective of improving Hall’s lighting at night so as to reduce energy-consumption and abide by the guidelines of Dark Sky.

At first, test fixtures were installed by the Hall city at a local park. Depending on the results, the Holophane Utility Post Top LED series luminaries were selected for providing a traditional appearance to city streets, lawn-lined sidewalks, and trees. The fixtures were mounted on the present poles at a height of 12 ft along the sidewalks and roadway, thereby increasing lighting efficiency and allowing the place to be illuminated uniformly. It requires just one photo control to control all the LED luminaries that are compliant with Dark Sky and lit from sunset till dawn.
